The region

In the heart of a fascinating region

The Domaine des Fontaines is in the heart of a region that is celebrated for its historic past, its equestrian tradition and its exceptional forest. The team at Les Fontaines is there to help you with any tourism or sports activities that you want to include in your event.

Chantilly, an exceptional town

The town of Chantilly is unique, shaped by history. Built around the Château at the wish of the Princes, Chantilly developed progressively during the XVIIIth century in a pattern of “rational urbanism” along the Rue du Connétable. In the XIXth century, it was the turn of riding activities to shape the town around the race course and Chantilly railway station.

The magic of the Château of Chantilly

The Château of Chantilly, dating from the XIVth century, houses the Musée Condé and the Living Museum of the Horse (le Musée vivant du cheval). Its park was designed by Le Nôtre, who also designed the gardens of Versailles. You can take a hydrofoil trip around its canals and moats, fly over the park in a hot air balloon or enjoy a game of golf.

Come and discover one of the most beautiful forests in Europe …

The Forest of Chantilly covers nearly 16 000 acres (6 300 hectares). Among the tree species listed there are predominantly oak and lime, but also ash, hornbeam, chestnut and Norway pine. There are many ways to explore the forest: riding, rambling, walking, cycling etc.

… or enjoy a wide variety of gardens

The Domaine offers a rich and varied display of the art of the garden. The large beds à la française of Le Nôtre, restored in 2009, run alongside an Anglo-Chinese garden and an English landscaped park.

Equestrian disciplines to the fore

Every year the Chantilly race course holds the Grand Prix of the Jockey Club and the Diane Prize. It is also a highly intensive training centre.

The Chantilly Polo Club organizes competitions, training sessions, dressage and other events during the season.

Senlis, a noted medieval village

The medieval village of Senlis is famous for its fortified walls and cobbled streets. It has a Gothic cathedral dating from the XIIth century, with its abbeys.

Paris is less than 25 minutes by train from Chantilly. More information is available on the website of the Chantilly tourism bureau.
