A sweeping and exemplary approach to ecological responsibility

Capgemini's Les Fontaines Campus has been awarded this label after an exhaustive audit of 37 mandatory and 15 voluntary criteria, particularly related to the measures taken to conserve water, to reduce the volume of waste and to improve the quality of the environment.

In its final report, the AFNOR Certification underscored the involvement on the part of all the centre's staff members, the significance of the investments devoted to taking the environmental objectives into account, the effort and involvement of the cleaning staff, as well as the significant reduction in the volume of waste generated.

By recognising Domaine des Fontaines, with its 52-hectare wooded grounds, its 45 common rooms and 500-seat auditorium, its 300 guest bedrooms, the numerous salons in the Rothschild Château, and its sport and leisure facilities, the European Eco-label has recognised a sweeping and exemplary approach to ecological responsibility which has seen the implementation of a multitude of concrete measures: organic breakfasts, low energy-use light bulbs, green electricity generation, elimination of individual containers (complimentary room supplies and food service items), water-saving fixtures, recyclable packaging, sorting and compacting of waste materials, energy optimisation plan, raising customer awareness….

Jacques Collin, the President-Founder, is proud that "the awarding of the European Eco-label celebrates an ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility that has been expressed since the project's earliest days". Indeed, ever since the centre was first planned, beginning in 1998, fitting in harmoniously with the natural and historical environment was a major priority, as is shown by concealing the parking garage underground beneath the guest villas, creating underground access beneath the château for lorry deliveries, carrying out a study of the flora and fauna in order to protect wildlife, and a major renovation of the Rothschild Château including a complete restoration of the exterior and the woodwork….

For Capgemini Gouvieux, the recognition of this ecological commitment is a part of company's determination to offer event organisers access to an exceptional environmental heritage, with all the latest information technologies at hand, a demanding level of hospitality and quality of service, plus the opportunity to balance out the ecological impact of their activities.

What is the eco-label?

The Eco-label is granted by the the European Union Eco-labelling Board (EUEB), which brings together representatives from various sectors of industry with environmental and consumer protection groups. All goods and services marked with the "Flower" that symbolises this green label have been checked out by independent organisations to verify their conformity with strict ecological and performance criteria. These concern not only energy consumption and waste management, but also energy supply, air quality and cleaning methods, water use and waste water, as well as management.

Doing away with individual packaging

In order to reduce the volume of solid waste and to eliminate potential wastage, Les Fontaines did away with all individual packaging in the rooms and the dining areas. At breakfast guests now find butter, jam, honey etc in bulk containers, as well many organic or fair-trade products.
