First aid can save lives
Receiving over 40,000 visitors a year, the Capgemini Les Fontaines Campus is equipped with seven defibrillators located at strategic points around the site. First aid courses are also available to all staff.
More and more French people are signing up for first aid courses. But only 40% of them have been initiated, compared with 80% in Germany. Yet first aid can save lives. For example, in many cases of cardiac arrest, the heart continues to beat, but the rhythm of the beats is so abnormal that the heart can no longer perform its function as a blood pump," explains the Red Cross website. This is fibrillation. The defibrillator analyzes the victim's heart rhythm and administers an electric shock if necessary. If resuscitation takes place within the first few minutes, the chances of survival are considerably increased".
