Environmental responsibility: creating carbon-neutral events

The commitment of the Campus Serge Kampf les Fontaines towards the environment started from the conception of the place and its opening in 2003. It translates into concrete initiatives and an annual thorough assessment of its carbon emissions.

Its environmental policy is based on four main areas:
– Rigorous energy policy,
– Responsible management of natural resources,
– Sorting and systematic valorization of waste,
– Involvement of clients, employees and suppliers.

Implementing concrete actions

A building management software controls the energy consumption of the site; the heating or air conditioning system is automatically switched off when opening a window; the 300 rooms are heated and refreshed thanks to geothermal energy; and electricity consumed on the site is 100% from renewable sources, thus guaranting a neutral impact in terms of CO2 emissions.

The sorting and valorization of waste generated by the site’s activity and the replacement of  individual packaging with bulk products have led to significant reductions.

Water consumption is reduced thanks to the use of a low-energy washing machines; water flow reducers are in place all over the site; water fountains have replaced little plastic bottles; most cleaning products are eco-labeled; and rainwater reserves are used for the annual filling of the swimming pool, fire safety and watering green spaces.

In terms of food & beverage, the Campus favors local and seasonal products and has established a policy of anti-food waste.

The biodiversity of the park is preserved by using a thermal weeder and natural insecticides (nematodes) to replace chemical pesticides; with the presence of 50+ hives; the study of fauna and flora; and the setting up of a guided tour biodiversity of the park with our gardener.

The rigorous follow-up of the action plans enabled the site to reach in 2017 -33% emission of greenhouse gases (vs 2006).

Sharing our ambitions

By carrying out an annual assessment of its carbon footprint, Campus Serge Kampf Les Fontaines allows its clients to measure the ecological footprint of their events and offers them the possibility to offset their stay with the platform ‘1 click = 1 tree’ in partnership with Mytree.

Each year, the Campus protects the equivalent of its ground (52 hectares) in the Amazonian forest.

The environmental approach of the Campus is recognized by the certifications of the European Ecolabel since 2008 and ISO 14001 since 2017.
