Les Fontaines through the centuries

This year marks the 140th anniversary of the arrival of the Rothschilds and the start of construction of the château, as well as the 20th anniversary of Capgemini's acquisition of the site and the 15th anniversary of the opening of the Campus. An opportunity to take a closer look at the history of Les Fontaines.

18th century: a romantic garden

Jacques Berthault acquires a 28-hectare plot at the far end of the estate. He created a romantic garden around a pond that inspired his son's imaginary poetic engravings.

19th century: construction of the château

In 1878, Baron Nathan James Edouard de Rothschild bought the estate, enlarged the property (52 hectares) and launched construction of the château as a second home, where he could host large-scale receptions and devote himself to his love of learning and antiquarian books.

20th century: a place for the Jesuits

At the end of the Second World War, the Jesuits inherited the estate and created a multi-disciplinary training center housing the largest private library in France, and the second largest in Europe after that of the Vatican.

21st century: an international training center

Just 20 years ago, in 1998, Capgemini invested in this historic site to build its campus. Opened in January 2003, the Campus is open to all companies wishing to hold their seminars and conventions here, thus continuing the site's original vocation: the exchange and sharing of knowledge... making it an international training center combining history and modernity. A place where you can work as well as recharge your batteries. A place that facilitates multicultural exchanges while preserving the French art of living and entertaining. A place that Baron J. de Rothschild would not disown if he were here today!
P.S. We'll be reporting on these anniversaries throughout the year on our social networks - just follow us as the story unfolds!
